Anyone who lives, works or otherwise has an interest in the future of the City of Hartsville is invited to share their ideas at a public meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, April 22 at Mt. Calvary AME Church, 1106 S. Sixth St. in Hartsville.
The meeting, which will feature discussion of a wide variety of topics including economic development, civic planning, beautification, city services and more, is intended to support efforts to develop a new master plan for Hartsville.
The project became possible earlier this year when the Byerly Foundation awarded a $100,000 grant to the recently formed Community Foundation for a Better Hartsville for the purpose of updating and expanding “Hartsville 2020,” the plan developed in 2008 by the Hartsville Planning Commission. The 12-month project will combine existing research and planning with new information, citizen opinion and professional design efforts. After it is completed, the plan will provide detailed steps for enhancing the factors which make Hartsville an attractive place to live and work, and inform future projects of the Community Foundation and the City of Hartsville.
The Boudreaux Group, selected to develop the comprehensive planning document, will use this meeting to gather ideas from interested participants for the plan. The group has also sought input from specific organizations and industries which are invested in Hartsville, and will present preliminary ideas at a later public meeting.
